FREE PATTERN: Chunky Yarn Baby Booties
Hello again!! I'm back with a new and revised pattern - remember my Chunky Yarn Baby Booties? Well, they were one of the very first patterns and apparently a couple of people were having trouble with it . . . so I re-worked the shoes, fixed some confusing spots, and took pictures. Now hopefully there are no problems to be found!
The most common question was whether or not you joined at the end of each round or just kept working - the answer is, just keep working! Once you finish one round, don't join with a slip stitch or anything, just pick up with the first stitch of the next round and keep going.
Materials
2 strands worsted weight yarn
J (6mm) crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn (contrasting color) for flower
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Notes:
1. Hold 2 strands throughout, except on flower.
2. Work steps 1-5 for both shoes, then work "Left Strap" or "Right Strap" according to which shoe you are making.
Stitch Explanations
Sc2tog - (insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Dc2tog - (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Booties
1. Ch 12, 2sc in 2nd, sc 9, 3sc in last (now working in backside of chains), sc 10. {24}
2. Sc 24. {24}
3. 2hdc 2x, sc 9, 2hdc 4x, sc 9. {30}
4. (back loops only) Sc 30 {30}
5. Sc 12, dc2tog 5x, sc 9. {25}
6. Sc 10, sc2tog 4x, sc 7. {21}
RIGHT STRAP:
7. Sc 6. Ch 15, sl st in 5th ch from hook, sl st 10, sc 8.
{Note: after you slip stitch down the chain-15 that you made, sc back across the single crochets that you just worked}
Fasten off, weave in ends.
LEFT STRAP:
7. Sc 6. Ch 1, turn.
8. Sc 9. Ch 15, sl st in 5th ch from hook, sl st 10, sl st to next sc.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
FLOWER:
With 1 strand of worsted weight yarn and E (3.5mm) crochet hook.
1. Magic ring, {ch 2, 2dc into ring, ch 2, sl st into ring} 5x. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Sew the flowers onto the shoes, attach a button on the side of either

ReplyDeleteSwathika, there are a few options. I would say the best would be to start with a beginning chain of about 14 or so, then adjust the pattern as needed maybe do hdc's instead of sc's in one round to make it wider). Or if it gets to confusing, you could always switch to three strands of yarn and a K hook :) Hope this helps!!
