FREE PATTERN: Light 'n' Lacy Cowl
This cowl is such a quick, easy project that uses less than a skein of yarn, a large hook, and produces a lovely cowl! The stitch works really well with Caron Simply Soft yarn, making for a great scarf with a beautiful drape!
As with most of my cowl patterns, this can be easily adjusted longer/shorter, skinnier/wider. For this reason I have not included stitch counts.
Materials
300 yards Caron Simply Soft yarn (or anything with a nice drape)
L (8mm) crochet hookTapestry needle
Scissors
Cowl
1. Chain desired amount (even number). I did 124. Turn, 2dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 1 chain, 2dc in next* across.
2-9. Ch 2, turn. *Skip 1 stitch, 2dc in next* across.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew together short sides, weave in ends.
This could also be made into a scarf by not joining the ends together at the very end.

Just thought I'd let you know a K hook is actually 6.5. Is that what you meant?

DeleteI think the cowl is lovely and would love to make one. But I've started it 4 times now and just cannot understand which stitch to skip after turning. I skip one stitch and it ends wrong at the end of the row. Skip the next stitch and it still doesn't look right. Are you crocheting between the stitches of the previous row??? Sorry for my confustion
ReplyDeleteChain 2, turn, skip the very first stitch that the chain 2 runs next to, then stitch in the next one. That double crochet set should be in the top of the left double crochet stitch of the lower set.
DeleteAt the end of the first row, I'm left with one chain before turning. Since it's an even number of stitches, this makes sense, but I'm not sure what to do?
