FREE PATTERN: Bow Baby Booties

Hey there! Hope you're all doing wonderful!

What have you been making lately? Leave a comment on this post and share!

The other day someone asked me to make them some bow baby booties, and my creative urge to design a pattern rather than follow a preexisting one took over...here's the result!

Here's the pattern:

Materials:
US G (4 mm) crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn (I used Vanna's Choice, but any WW yarn will work)
Tapestry needle

Special Stitches:
sc-2-tog - (insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop) 2 times, yarn over and pull hook through all 3 loops
dc-2-tog - (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 2 times, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook.
dc-3-tog - (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Stitch Abbreviations
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
sc-2-tog (see above)
dc-2-tog (see above)
dc-3-tog (see above)

Boots (make 2)
Chain 11.
1. Hdc in 2nd chain from hook and and next 8, 3 hdc in last, (working in backside of chains), hdc  in next 8, 2 hdc in last, sl st to 1st hdc.
2. Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as joining, hdc in next 8, 2 hdc in next 3, hdc in next 8, 2 hdc in next 2, sl st to ch-2 space.
3. Ch 2, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next 8, 2 hdc in next 7, hdc in next 10, 2 hdc in next 2, sl st to ch-2 space.
4. (back loops only) Ch 2, hdc in each stitch around, sl st to ch-2 space.
5. Ch 1, sc in next 9, sc-2-tog, dc-2-tog, dc in next, dc-3-tog, dc in next, dc-2-tog 2 times, sc-2-tog, sc around, sl st to first sc.
6. Ch 1, sc in same and next 8, sc-2-tog, dc-2-tog 2 times, sc-2-tog, sc around, sl st to first sc.
7. Ch 1, sc in same and next 6, sc-2-tog, dc-2-tog 2 times, sc-2-tog, sc around, sl st to first sc.
8-11. Ch 1, sc in same and each stitch around, sl st to first sc.

For a taller boot, repeat the last row as many times as you need to. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Bows (make 2)
Chain 21
1. Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across.
2-4. Ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch across

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Fold the rectangle in half and, using the long tail that you left, stitch all the way around the bow so that you have a smaller rectangle. Then cut a long piece of yarn and wrap it around the middle of the rectangle tightly.

Sew the bow onto your boot and you're done! Mine ended up about 4" long and 2 1/4" inches wide, without stretching, which would probably fit a 3-6 month baby. You could use a smaller or larger hook to get a slightly smaller or larger shoe. I also have a pattern for a larger size of these booties here.

If you make a pair, I would love to see pictures!

Happy crocheting!

  6. These are SOOOO CUTE!!! I would really love to make these however I seem to be having a really hard time in understanding the instructions/crocheting terminology. I shared the pattern with two friends and they couldn't figure it out either. Not sure if it's just us, as I haven't seen any other responses for help in this area or if this is written in standard format. I've not had issues before and if I run across a difficult pattern a basic book always rectifies any questions. Does anybody else know how to interpret this pattern a different way? Bootie TOOOOO CUTE to miss out on!

    1. Yeah, I too had difficulty following the pattern too. I've crocheted before, but this pattern didn't make sense. Under 1., I'm good up to where you work the back stitches. At that point, I'm already at the end of the row, so do you go back? Do you turn? Where do you crochet that 8 hdc in the back stitches? Do you work just that part in the back stitches?

    2. When I say "working in backside of chains" I mean turn your work so that you work in the bottom loop of the chains. You will be at the end of the row. By doing this you should have a long oval shape. Hope that helps.

  7. So glad you like them! Hmm, is there a specific part of the pattern that confuses you? Or is it just the abbreviations? I would be happy to help. This was the first pattern that I ever wrote, so maybe I wrote it in a confusing way . . . I will re-write it the way my newer patterns on this blog are written - hopefully that will help!

  8. Hey Jay. I made the first boot ok without a problem. Now I'm attempting to do the second and, for some reason, it's not coming out. I think it might be round 5. Claify for me. Where you say to stitch 2 times, is it just the dc-2-tog you do twice or more than that? I'm gonna start from the beginning again. I know the first one wasn't hard so I don't know what I'm doing or not doing that is screwing me up. Thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Lynn, Glad the first book worked out! When I say "dc2tog 2 times" I mean to do the stitch twice, no more than that. So you would decrease once over two stitches, then decrease one more time over the next 2. Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other problems!

    1. These would probably end up about 4.25 inches long - so maybe to fit a 3-6/6-9 month baby? Hope that helps!

  10. Hi Jay,

I would like to make the bow but don't get this:
stitch all the way around the bow so that you have a smaller rectangle. Stitch together both the folded side? How will the rectangle be smaller?
    Thanks for answer!

    1. Hey! What I mean is you make one long rectangle, then fold it in half so that you have a shorter rectangle. Then stitch all the way around the rectangle. Let me know if you need more help . . . .

  11. One suggestion would be to add how many you chain at the turn.

    1. Hi Kim! You actually don't turn your work at all in the bootie :)

  12. I just made one of these, and it's super duper cute...but...it's also the smallest bootie in the world!! Haha, silly me though, I did use a 4 ply wool ;) Might have to give it another go with different yarn! Thanks for the pattern!!

  13. can we use this tutorial on the booties part, for visual learners? or are your booties a different pattern than these? and if not, do you think they'll still turn out nice if we use the youtube tutorial for the booties part instead of yours?

    1. These boots are no the exact same as mine, but they are very similar. So yes, you could use this tutorial then use my pattern for the bow. Hope that helps!!

  14. Brilliant Idea! I'm sure a lot of them are trying it now.

  15. I think what would help me is if there was a count at the end of each row as to how many stitches there are (or should be). I can't seem to get it to look right :( And these are ADORABLE booties!

  16. Hi, I'm attempting this for the first time and I'm stuck on rnd 3. Ive checked and rechecked but I don't have 10 stitches

    1. Hi DAFemme71!! Sorry you are having trouble. I am actually hoping to do a photo tutorial and clean up the pattern a bit, sometime this week. But for now, I would say don't worry if you have only 10 stitches. I would continue on and don't worry about it if you only have 9 or something. Make sense? Just keep working the bootie! And hopefully the newer version (might have to work on that today!) will help :)

    2. Did you do a photo tutorial? I would like to check it out as i'm having an issue with the pattern. I'm a newbie and don't know when you mean to turn or not to turn. :)

  17. The booties are adorable! I've made so many boy ones (as I only have nephew's) but now that there's a girl coming I was really stoked to start these. Having a really hard time with the pattern though. I've restarted it twice and all three times there hasn't been twelve stitches to finish off the round three (hdc 10 st, 2hdc in next 2 st) wondering if there is a typo? Seems in the comments that there are others having similar problems. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  18. I've restarted the bootie 3 times. I'm having the same problem as Addy. When I get to the end of round 3, I'm short 2 stitches, so can't do the last direction of 2 hdc in last 2 stitches. If I skip it I'm going to be short 4 stitches for the next round. Is there a mistake?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Also I forget to write that it would be really helpful to have the stitch count for each round. These booties are so adorable. I appreciate your posting the pattern.

  21. I am also having issues with round three-- after finishing 10 hdc, I am short the two stitches needed for the 2 hdc. Can anyone clear this up?

  22. Did you use a G(4.5 mm) hook or a 5mm(H) hook?

  26. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
