FREE PATTERN: Comfy Baby Sandals

Et voila! The pattern for the baby size of my Comfy Toddler Sandals! After making the toddler size, there was some interest in a smaller size, so here it is!

Mine ended up about 4 inches long using a G hook, but I kept a super tight gauge - so I suggest using an F to get the same size. To make them larger, just go up a hook size!

Here's the pattern:

Materials
F (3.75mm) crochet hook
50 yards worsted weight yarn - Color A
50 yards worsted weight yarn - Color B
Scissors
Tapestry needle
2 buttons
Needle and thread for sewing on button
(optional) Puffy Fabric Paint

Stitch Abbreviations
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Dc2tog - double crochet 2 together (explained below)
Sl st - slip stitch
CA - color A
CB - color B

Stitch Explanations
Dc2tog - (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook

Notes
1. Always slip stitch loosely. When you are slip stitching the two soles together, if you slip stitch too tight, it will be hard to work into the stitches later. When you are slip stitch around the perimeter of the shoe at the end, if you do it too tight, it will cinch up the heel.
2. The numbers in brackets are the stitch counts

Soles
With CA.
1. Ch 7, dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next, 2dc in next, dc in next 2. [6]
2. Ch 2, turn. Dc in next, 2dc in next, dc in next 2, 2dc in next, dc in next. [8]
3-7. Ch 2, dc in each stitch across. [8]
8. Ch 2, dc in next, dc2tog, dc in next 2, dc2tog, dc in next. [6]

Sc evenly around the perimeter of the rectangle until you have 41 single crochets. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Repeat with CB until you have 2 soles of the same size. Then join CA in the top left corner of the rectangles and sl st in each sc, through both soles.

This is where it becomes different according to which shoe you are doing.

9. Join CB in the slip stitch where my hook is and sc in next 29. [29]

 10-11. Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 29. [29]
 12-22. Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 4. [4]
23. Ch 1, turn. Sc in next, ch 2, skip 2 stitches, sc in last. [4]
24. Ch 1, turn. Sc in next, 2sc in ch2 space, sc in last. [4]
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Join CA at the base of the strap and slip stitch up and around the strap, then continue slip stitching in each sc around the heel.

Fasten off, weave in ends. Sew a button on, and you're done!

  1. These are the cutest little sandals! I'm having fun making them but would like to note that in the directions for making the soles, there is an error in row 2. It states to dc in 3 stitches between the 2 increases. There should only be 2 dc in between the increases or you end up with 9 dc across the row.

Otherwise I'm loving the pattern. One of the easier ones I've found to follow!

  6. Hello and thanks for the free pattern! Just wanted to let you know that in direction #8 for the soles, it should only be one DC between the decreases. Making two DC's has me running out of stitches to finish the row.

  8. What size would these shoes be about? I want to make them for an almost 12 month old. The toddler one says 18 months so they'd be too big to wear now. Are these for a small baby like 3 months? Or would they be closer to 9, that a bigger hook might make it fit 12 months?
