FREE PATTERN: Girl's Bow Strap Slippers

In honor of the release of my new baby booties pattern, Bow Strap Baby Flats - available here - I have a free kids-sized version of the pattern for you! After making the baby version, I decided to make a womens size for myself. And they were sooo cute and comfy that everyone began wanting some. I knew an 8-year-old who was having a birthday and thought this would be perfect for her - so here is a girls size 1.5 slipper!

But the great thing about these is that you can adjust the hook and yarn weight and have a completely different size! I used Bernat Waverly (Aran weight) and a G hook, and it came to a 1.5 size, but if you used DK weight yarn and an E or F hook, you could make it smaller - or even hold 2 strands of DK weight yarn and use an I or J hook to get a bigger size . . . the possibilities are endless!

She looooved the slippers, and I even got her to model them for me :)

Here's the pattern:

Materials
G (4mm) crochet hook
2 colors worsted weight yarn (or Aran) 75 yards each
Scissors
Tapestry needle

Stitch Abbreviations
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Dc - double crochet
Dc2tog - double crochet 2 together
Sc2tog - single crochet 2 together
Sl st - slip stitch

Stitch Explanations
Dc2tog - (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook
Sc2tog - (insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook

Notes
The numbers in {} at the end of each round are the stitch counts for that round.

If you want to change colors, change after round 4.

  2. Hello, I was wondering what size 1.5 is? I'm trying to make these for my 4 year old sister-in-law who wears a size 9 in kids. What can I do to make it her size? By the way I LOVE this pattern! And am soo excited to make it and love that it's free. =)

    1. Hi Shelby,

These slippers are made for 1.5 kids size, which is actually bigger than a 9 (it goes 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 1, 2, etc). For a smaller shoe I would suggest using sport weight yarn or even sock yarn and a smaller hook. Another option (though I am sure you would rather use the free pattern :D) is that you could purchase my Bow Strap Baby Flats (the baby version of this shoe) and use chunky or bulky weight yarn (or hold 2 strands of worsted weight yarn together) and follow the 6-12 month pattern . . .

Glad you like the pattern! Would love to see a picture if you make them :)

    1. So glad you like these and are making them :) What I mean is, insert your hook into the corner of the bow, then insert it into the next stitch. There is a picture if you scroll up. You are basically just doing a slip stitch but through two the bow and the slipper at the same time. This attaches the bow to the slipper. Hope that helps! If not, you can always just sew the bow to the slipper :)

    2. Thanks for the help! I finished the slippers, and love the way they turned out! Is there any chance you could make an adult version of this pattern? Thanks!

    3. I actually have 2 sizes done, and I am thinking of selling the adult version. Would that be something you would consider purchasing for 3.95?

    4. How soon do you think you could have the adult size available? I would love if it were just like the girls size, only bigger. The comment below is also mine. :) Thanks again for everything!

    5. Yes, it would be the same as the girls, just bigger and in a variety of sizes. I am hoping that by the end of September maybe? But who knows, I am going to be pretty busy soon :) Is there a time you need it by?

    6. Well, I was going to make a pair for an early September birthday, but if that's not feasible, that's totally fine. Late September would work too. :) Let me know what is about the best for you, and I'll buy it. :)

  6. If an adult size was available I would love to purchase it! Would it work up the same as the girl's size? If so, YES!!!! Would love an adult size. :) Thanks!

    1. Hi there! I am not 100% sure when it will be out, but if you let me know what size you would need, maybe I could try to have that one done? By the way, if it is easier for you, you can just email me at jaysboutique.etsy@gmail.com and we can continue there :)

    1. Hi Maria,

Sorry you are having problems! Is there something specific I can help you with? If it is only round 2 that is giving you trouble? If so, you could just match up the stitch count and continue on.

  10. Question: Is Row 7 sc 70 or 72? because in the {72}.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Katie! The stitch count and the sc's will not necessarily match up. As long as you count very carefully, the pattern should work itself out! So yes, {72} and 70 sc's is correct :)

  12. I'm just starting and new to crochet but I was wondering if you are supposed to join after each row. I dont think you do but I wanted to check because my count seems to be off a bit. But I love this pattern so much that I will keep trying! Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. Hi Janice! Thanks for your comment. No, you don't join at the end of each row. Just keep working in the round. I hope this helps!
